TRESPASSERS W – BOEKELAAR, BACK (N D Records)

Musically this Dutch band follows the same mid-tempo trod as Codeine, but the accent is remarkably Dutch, a higher, more nasal range, and lyrically (in English) it describes the fate of a soccer player in the mid-50s. The Codeine reference of the first side must be coincidence because the flipside is nothing like the first side. In « Breath » they quicken the pace with a song that goes from being about German industry and bombs an unrequited love song.
« Mausoleum in Sofia » is a quiet lullaby in Dutch about a music box organ that belonged to King Ferdinand, a Bulgarian King in the 1920’s, and in the second verse the Georgi Dimitroff’s removal from a mausoleum in Sofia to a grave. This is a band obsessed with detail, and it shows in their music as well.
